In this project, we were meant to take an object we had and make a cardboard version of it. Then we were meant to cover that cardboard object in another material, "transforming" it.
I choose an open book to recreate, and I covered it in sketches and doodles cut from the pages of my high school notes and binders. I soaked the clippings in coffee to try to give them an aged appearance, then glued them to the cardboard model of the book.
This project is very personal and I can remember all the events attached to the small images. The sketches include little drawings of cartoon characters, my friends, teachers, and things we were talking about in class. As a piece it feels very meaningful as the form of the book connects the drawings to academics, my journey with art, and my love of literature. It serves as a sort of scrapbook or sketchbook for me.
